The concept for this company was born in 1999 by its founder, Michael Hyde when he became frustrated with the quality of products and costs of whitewater kayaking.

Helmets were the first big disappointment as he became involved in the sport. The low-end products were made of plastic, cheap foam, and mostly ill-fitting. They appeared to be made for a one-size fits all approach to life.  The high-end products, while nice in appearance, were heavy, uncomfortable, and over-priced.

Paddles were another disappointment. El-Cheapo paddles were heavy and use a lot of plastic. Medium price paddles were great on the first outing, but chipped up easily. High-end paddles were really nice, but were they really worth the $400 to $750 asking price? Nope…..

What MadKayak endeavors to accomplish is to produce lightweight and lightning fast paddles and helmets from space-age materials at a reasonable cost to the consumer, while introducing exciting new designs and graphics embedded into the paddles and helmets. We want you to buy our products not only because they functionally outperform our competition, but because they will make you stand out from the rest of the crowd.

Our warranty policy is simple. If within 3 years your paddle comes apart, we replace it at no cost to you. If your helmet comes apart within 3 years, we replace it at no cost to you either.
